Sports Medicine

Juris Medicus’ sports medicine experts have completed a fellowship in sports medicine and are certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Many additionally are credentialed with an orthopaedic sports medicine subspecialty certification.

Sports medicine is a clinical subspecialty that is focuses on physical fitness and the diagnosis and treatment of injuries sustained in sports or physical activities. Sports medicine requires a deep understanding of orthopedics, but also brings in other approaches, such as lifestyle modifications, nutrition counseling, and physical training.

A sports medicine specialist has significant training in both the treatment and prevention of illness and injury that commonly affect athletes. These can be due to injury on the field, overtraining, repetition, or overuse. These fellowship-trained physicians treat many injuries affecting bones, tendons, ligaments such as ACL tears in the knee, ankle injuries, tennis elbow, tendonitis, shin splints, and rotator cuff injuries in the shoulder.
