Otolaryngology

Juris Medicus has a panel of board-certified otolaryngologists – head and neck surgeons who have experience with the care of both adult and pediatric patients.

The medical specialty which focuses on the ears, nose, and throat is called otolaryngology – head and neck surgery. The experts who practice in this field are commonly referred to as ENT specialists. Otolaryngologists are trained in the medical and surgical treatment of hearing loss, ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise (tinnitus), nerve pain, and facial and cranial nerve disorders. Regarding the nose, they diagnose, manage, and treat allergies, sinusitis, smell disorders, nasal polyps, and nasal obstruction due to a deviated septum. They can also correct the appearance of the nose (rhinoplasty surgery). Otolaryngologists additionally have expertise in managing diseases of the larynx (voice box) and swallowing disorders.

Following residency, an otolaryngologist may opt to further specialize by completing a fellowship in neurotology, sleep medicine, and complex pediatric otolaryngology. A certified neurotologist focuses on diseases of the lateral skull base and temporal bone region and will commonly collaborate with a neurosurgeon for a surgical treatment plan. Otolaryngologists who become sub-certified in sleep medicine have extra training in the diagnostic, medical, and surgical needs of patients with sleep disorders. A complex pediatric otolaryngologist (CPO) has special expertise in caring for infants and children with complex ear, nose, and throat disorders and/or common otolaryngologic disorders in otherwise complex children.
