A clinical neurophysiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in testing the electrical functions of the brain, spinal cord, and the nerves in the limbs and muscles. Diagnostic evaluations that are used for neurophysiology assessments include electroencephalograms (EEGs), evoked potentials (EPs), nerve conduction studies (NCV), and electromyography (EMG). Utilizing the assessment data, a neurophysiologist can diagnose and help develop a treatment plan for conditions that involve the health of the brain and nervous system. Common conditions evaluated by a neurophysiologist are seizures, sleep disturbance, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.
