Dermatology

The expert dermatologists that work with Juris Medicus are certified by the American Board of Dermatology. One expert has specialty training in blistering disorders, Mohs surgery, hair transplantation, and mycosis fungoides.

A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in treating the skin, hair, and nails.  Issues dermatologists see may include chronic disease caused by problems with a patient’s immune system, allergic reactions to everyday substances, and infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Dermatologists may also help patients with cosmetic concerns, including issues with burns and aging skin, treating wounds caused by surgery to remove a skin cancer, helping to diminish acne or other scars, or helping patients suffering diseases like AIDS restore a healthier appearance.

After becoming board-certified, some dermatologists decide to receive advanced training in dermatopathology, Mohs surgery, or pediatric dermatology. A dermatopathologist is skilled in examining biopsied skin tissue with a microscope to diagnose a dermatological condition.  A Mohs surgeon is a dermatologist who performs a special surgical technique of removing thin pieces of skin and then examining each section with a microscope. This surgery is used to treat skin cancer and the examination ensures that all skin cancer cells are removed with minimal impact on healthy skin. A pediatric dermatologist may be consulted if a child is diagnosed with a severe skin condition, a challenging birthmark, or rare genetic conditions that affect the skin.
